Chinese Consul General in Auckland Chen Shijie Attends Opening Ceremony of the 7th Xiangshang New Zealand National Kungfu Wushu Championships

On 5 September, Consul General Chen Shijie attended the opening ceremony of the 7th Xiangshang New Zealand National Wushu Championships and delivered a speech. Members of Parliament Nancy Lu, Dr. Carlos Cheung, and Deborah Russell, President of the New Zealand Kungfu Wushu Federation Glen Keith and hundreds of guests from all walks of life were present at the event.

In his remarks, Consul General Chen noted that Wushu, as a shining symbol of Chinese culture, embodies the Oriental wisdom of continuous self-improvement and esteem for harmony, which echoes the shared values of people across the world in pursuit of health, kindness and progress. Chinese Wushu culture has been deeply integrated into New Zealand's diverse-cultural landscape,injecting warm and enduring grassroots impetus into the development of China-New Zealand relations. The Consulate-General will, as always, support people-to-people and cultural exchanges with China in the consular district, promote mutual understanding and mutual learning between the two nations, and contribute to the steady and sustained growth of China-New Zealand relations.

Co-hosted by the New Zealand Kung-Fu Wushu Federation and the New Zealand Hunan General Chamber of Commerce, the championships feature events including Taolu, Taichi, and Sanda, with a lively and spirited atmosphere on site.
